BARBARA KAPETANAKES, PsyD
I am a psychologist living and working in Sleepy Hollow, NY. In addition to photography, my other main hobby is horseback riding.
Photography and art were always passions of mine as a child and teenager, but as with many people, school, starting a career, and life got in the way of my hobbies for awhile. Then in my early 40s I started attending some local photo clubs, entering the competitions, and putting work into the exhibits. I got my "sea legs" back and found that creative outlet that I needed. I now have some of my photos on my office walls, and it reminds me of the importance of hobbies and creativity, even when you love what you do for a living. There always has to be a balance.
Angles and Windows
(Digital Photo)
This was taken on a trip to St. Augustine for the Birding and Photo Fest. In addition to the photo activities provided by the festival, I also got to do some sightseeing at museums and tourist attractions.
I liked the lines, angles, and curves of this corner of a museum, with the view out the small window. I then played with it in Photoshop to give it a more artistic feel, and make the viewer question what of this setting was real, and what was created by computer. All the lines, shapes, and colors were real, but I aimed for my enhancements to give it a more surreal quality.
