PATRICK RAFFERTY, PhD

I am a relational psychotherapist, oil painter, and writer of fiction. I live and work in Brooklyn, New York City where I have a psychoanalytic psychotherapy practice.

As an artist, I like to paint things that are ambiguous, surprising, and disturbing so that the viewer has ample room to project their own pains and experiences onto the canvas. In terms of my own projections, I am interested in painting things that remind me of mortality, masculinity, vulnerability, dissociation, and humor. And since color represents emotions, I love to paint colors.

The View Outside the Studio Window
at Franklin Street
(Oil on Canvas 40" x 34")

This is an oil painting of the view outside of my studio window in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The historic Astral Building is in the background and in the foreground is a radiator that I think might be alive.
