JUDY MCLAUGHLIN-RYAN

As an artist, I have been painting oils on canvas for the past few decades. I would post art around my childhood home, in order to express messages, I thought could benefit my family of origin. In the past few years, as a practicing psychotherapist in Westwood, California, specializing in PTSD and Addictions, my recent series of artwork has been focused on sustaining a quality of life, whether through paintings of TEETH, where dogs all feel beautiful whether their teeth conform or not, and MY WINGS, which expresses the reclaiming of freedom from any and all othering with great depths of understanding and the unconscious state. Most recently my TEETH series was part of the Dawg Days Art on Montana Avenue in Santa Monica.

A few years ago I was one of the studios included in The Venice Beach Art Walk. When the studio tour ended, on the weekends I place select paintings outside of my studio in Venice Beach for viewing.

As our planet continues to crave stability, beauty, safety, art becomes a mechanism offering the healing and development of physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual health. Art illustrates the potential for great goodness and abundance which can unexpectedly turn our lives into the light. With current oils on canvas, othering does not exist and with wings one can visually grab the globe that needs healing, and find hope.

MY WINGS

(Oil on Canvas, 8” x 10”)

The concept of MY WINGS was inspired by the drive and desire to expand, grow, develop, find a healing through moving through change and developmental stages with grace and dignity. The view from the elevated vantage point can offer choice and release. When darkness descends and one feels like their wing has been broken, harmed, effected by negative, it requires reclaiming one's own wing, reattaching, and raising above and beyond. The ability to be free and fly, explore and heal.
