My artistic voice draws from a career as a psychologist interested in attachment theory, object relations and transitional objects. I find beauty in the practice of psychotherapy where I explore interpersonal and family relationships to find patterns and trends. This experience spills into my thoughts when I design and create jewelry with metal arts techniques. I use texture, negative space, mixed metals, contrasting color and irregular forms. Negative space shows the context and relational aspect of our attachments; here I can express the emotion and type of connection in the design. Textures show the weathered experience of the years and patterns I see. Shapes I gravitate to are irregular modernist forms with curves indicating a person is present. I strive to make my jewelry design comfortable, sustainable and useful for the wearer. Through this transforming effort I am ever the therapist, wanting to contribute something insightful.

Organic Form Necklace
(Sterling Silver with Mystic Sage Turquoise and Salt and Pepper Diamond gemstones, 18" Long)

Oxidized sterling silver link necklace joins textured organic form shapes with handmade links and closure. The center is an open wire form with mystic sage turquoise and salt and pepper diamond accent. All parts are hand fabricated and completely soldered. I am wearing this necklace in my headshot so you can see how it looks on the body.

This piece of jewelry is part of my 2022 Organic Form Collection with Gemstones. This sculptural necklace highlights the connection between nature and humanity. The open wire form is intended to suggest a human form centered by earthly gifts and is linked to a family of connected textured silver shapes. One of the reasons I love to make link necklaces and bracelets is because it feels like the joining of individual selves in an expression of the variety of attachments. In this piece I highlight the connection to nature as a recognition how the earth sustains and supports our psychological attachments.
