EDWARD KORBER, PhD

Edward Korber works as a licensed clinical neuropsychologist in New York. For the past half century he has provided clinical care, primarily through public service hospital settings, to members of the communities underserved populations. He is an advocate of life long learning and has earned a number of post graduate certifications in behavior analysis, psycho-pharmacology, and substance abuse treatment. He has also continued to serve in a number of leadership positions committees of the American Psychological Association and NYS Psychological Association.

Perhaps more importantly for the last forty years Ed has also worked collaboratively, along with the other self taught artists and volunteers, at the Living Museum located on the grounds of Creedmoor Psychiatric Center in Queens County. His current mantra…

“ there is an artist in each of us who is aware of three basic truths:
Nothing is perfect
Nothing is finished
Nothing lasts forever
But
we can also come to learn, to appreciate the beauty in our imperfect world and lives that surround and embrace us.”

It has been said that an aim of psychotherapy is to assist in the establishment of a healthy relationship with the unconscious ; neither excessively out of balance or so flooded by it that it risks severe mental breakdown and personality disorder. In that quest one method Jung applied was active imagination, a way of encouraging one to give over to a form of meditation to release images from the mind to bridge unconscious contents into awareness; to acknowledge the shadow. "Everyone carries a shadow", Jung wrote, "and the less it is embodied in the individual's conscious life, the blacker and denser it is." There are however also often masked many positive aspects that may also remain hidden within one's shadow (especially in those burdened with, anxieties, false beliefs and low self esteem).

In my work the Psychological helps me to help others find those positive aspects to shift their mental perspective for Restructuring. Undergoing the psychological assessment becomes part of the act of being reborn therapeutically; exploration which can change one's mindset to strengthen oneself with reframed meaning that can always has a positive connotation. Not often an easy task to accomplish I often look for the inspiration facilitating this rebirthing thru recognition of my own shadowed muses emergence.
